Tulane entered Norman, Oklahoma on Saturday looking to compete against the top-rated Sooners.

When they arrived, they received more than just a game. Support and love from the entire Sooners community greeted the Green Wave.

It had been a tough week for Tulane in the wake of Hurricane Ida. The team relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where it practiced at the University of Alabama’s facilities and at historic Legion Field. And the school’s home game against Oklahoma turned into a road trip.

But Oklahoma quickly made Tulane feel right at home for the season-opening matchup.

The Sooners placed Tulane’s Angry Wave logo at the 25-yard lines on the field. Tulane also received all net proceeds from ticket sales.

“This is obviously a heart-wrenching time,” Oklahoma Vice President and Athletic Director Joe Castiglione said. “We have been reminded again of the life events that take precedence over everything else we do. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tulane President Michael Fitts, Athletics Director Troy Dannen, the Tulane community and everyone impacted by this storm.

“I know that many of our fans were looking forward to visiting one of our favorite cities, New Orleans. But now, we have an opportunity to do what we do best, and that is extend our hospitality to people who are facing a significant challenge. All of us will do our part to make the Tulane team and fans feel welcome and appreciated as we host their home game.”

Tulane appreciated the outpouring support. The school used the hashtag “#RollWave” on social media and provided an official thank you to the Oklahoma community.

“Cannot thank the good folks in Norman and @OU_Athletics enough for their help all week,” Tulane’s football social media account wrote on Twitter. “What college sports are all about. #RollWave.”

Tulane will face Morgan State in Birmingham on Saturday. The Associated Press reported the matchup will take place at Legion Field.
