Daily Sports Smile: Rapper J. Cole plays pickup basketball with Orlando Magic

NBA training camps open next week with each team preparing for the 2021-2022 regular season. The Orlando Magic have several players already in the gym. On Wednesday, the Magic got a special visit from multi-platinum rapper J. Cole.

Cole joined Magic players for a pickup game at the team facility. According to Rookie Wire, Cole was in town for his “The Off-Season Tour” with fellow rapper 21 Savage. The duo will hold a concert at the Amway Center on Sept 25.

The Orlando Magic shared photos from the pickup game on their official Twitter account. 

The talented artist, whose real name is Jermaine Cole, is no stranger to the hardwood. Cole played for the Rwanda Patriots Basketball Club in the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) earlier this year.

In three BAL appearances, Cole had five points, five rebounds and three assists. His basketball roots reaches back to high school in Fayetteville, NC. Cole starred at Terry Sanford High School and was a former walk-on at St. John’s University in college.

After hosting Cole, the Magic also reached out to famous comedian and actor Adam Sandler to join a future pickup game

This season, the Magic embark on a new journey with first-year head coach Jamahl Mosley at the helm. The roster includes Cole Anthony, Jonathan Isaac, Markelle Fultz and 2021 first-round picks Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner.

The Magic open preseason play against the Boston Celtics on Oct. 4. The regular season begins Oct. 20 with a road matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.
