San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel paid homage to late actor Tommy “Tiny” Lister ahead of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. Samuel was given his nickname after Lister’s famous Deebo character in the 1995 film “Friday.”

Samuel arrived at Levi Stadium riding a bicycle and plaid collar shirt. It was Lister’s signature outfit as he portrayed a neighborhood bully in the film.

Lister was also a noted athlete in his own right. He was the 1982 NCAA Division II shot put champion at Cal State University Los Angeles. He also was known as Zeus in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) where he feuded with Hulk Hogan and teamed with “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

After his wrestling career, Lister was cast in a villain role in multiple films. At 6-foot-5, he was an imposing figure that matched against film protagonists. His film credits include roles in “The Dark Knight,” “Friday After Next,” and “The Fifth Element.”

Lister died last December. His presence is still remembered by many and Samuel continued to highlight his impact in a special way on Sunday afternoon.
