The sports landscape welcomed two newborns with open arms this week. Both babies drew headlines and provoked emotional reactions across the country.

In Jacksonville, a superstar father turned in a heroic effort. Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dawuane Smoot delivered his daughter, Ahlani Moon Smoot, at his residence.

Smoot and his wife, Aumari, were preparing to head to the hospital. However, Ahlani had other plans as she was ready to enter the world. Smoot sprang into action as Aumari went into labor.

With the assistance of paramedics, Smoot delivered Ahlani in the living room Tuesday in the early morning hours.

Smoot took to Twitter and proclaimed that Aumari was the real hero. He gave his wife major props for giving birth in just one hour.

Miles away in Boston, another newborn was making their presence known. During Game 3 of the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros, a 5-month-old was crowned “Fenway Baby.”

The baby, whose name is Giovanni, was shown on the video board dressed in a sweat suit, stocking cap and wearing headphones. The Red Sox fans went bananas and shouted MVP chants in appreciation of young Giovanni.

Giovanni’s mother, Kaitlyn Cali, told CBSBoston.com that the crowd loved the family dancing so much that they were spotlighted around four or five times.

“We’re dancing and we just held him up like, ‘Hey, here’s my cute baby, we’re dancing,’" Kaitlyn told CBSBoston.com. "They showed him on the jumbotron and the whole entire stadium was like, 'Yeah!'”

In a scene reminiscent of “The Lion King,” could young Giovanni become like Simba and spark the Red Sox to a World Series crown?

Only time will tell.

One thing is for sure, both Ahlani and Giovanni captured the hearts of many Tuesday night in the world of sports.
