Dallas Mavericks guard Tim Hardaway Jr. helped make the holidays special for two local families this week. On Tuesday, Hardaway Jr. partnered with the Dallas Leadership Foundation and surprised the families with several gifts and items.

Hardaway Jr. met with the families and spread a little holiday cheer. He also made a heartwarming gesture by donating $5,000 to each family. He said he hopes to help ease financial burdens during the holiday season.

“I’ve always wanted to do this, ever since I made it to the NBA,” Hardaway told the families via the Mavericks official website. “My heart is racing right now. It’s just great this time of the year to give back to those that work hard throughout the entire year and take care of their loved ones. Here’s a gift from myself to you all. I want to give each family a check.”

Hardaway shared photos from the event on his Instagram account. He mentioned that it was a special two days to give back to the community.

Earlier this week, he met with kids from a local nonprofit organization after the Mavericks game. The group was able to interact with him and enjoy the team’s 120-96 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

This season, Hardaway is averaging 14.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He’s also been active in the community by helping distribute 250 Thanksgiving meals with the team.
