Cincinnati Bengals safety Jessie Bates III had a special surprise for single mothers and their families this month. Bates partnered with local organization Bigger Than Sneakers to host a holiday outing in the community.

Bates set up his JB3 Single Mother's Initiative and invited families to an evening of fun. There were many activities including bowling, games and food. The families also received Christmas gifts and a special trip to a recent Bengals game.

Bates mentioned that it was important to give back. He was raised in a single mother household and wanted to spread a little holiday cheer for those in need.

“The JB3 Single Mother's Initiative is to give back to the single mothers and the kids as well,” Bates said.

Bates held his first JB3 Single Mother's Initiative event in 2019. He told the Bengals official website that the initiative meant a lot because of the sacrifices he saw his mom make growing up. He wanted to give back and make things easier for single mothers in the community.

Over the years, Bates has worked to put on special events. He loves helping others and doing his part in any way possible.

“It is awesome to be in this situation and give back to families I was similar to growing up,” Bates said in a video released on his social media account. This is an awesome event and I want to thank everyone that was apart of it. Being able to reach back to the community is just awesome. It is near and dear to my heart.”

Bates is in his fourth season with the Bengals. This season, he has played in 13 games and registered 79 total tackles, a fumble recovery and one interception.
