Daily Sports Smile: Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill holds recent gala to support youth mental health programs
Kansas City Chiefs star Tyreek Hill gave back to his local community in a big way earlier this month. Hill held his inaugural gala to raise funds for youth mental health programs. His family foundation raised over $177,000 during the special event.
The gala took place on December 10. Several Chiefs were attendance to show their support of the great cause. Hill mentioned that the gala was apart of his efforts to help disadvantaged youth.
“I want to give back to the community a lot with mental health resources,” Hill said. “We all have a purpose in life, and I feel like my purpose is to give back and show love to the community.”
The special event included a lot of fun activities. There were silent auctions, fundraising games and live entertainment. Hill also answered questions from those in attendance about his foundation and the efforts in the community.
This season, Hill is also focusing on education. He is donating $5,000 to his Cheetah Scholarship Fund for every touchdown he scores. It is a big initiative that helps empower kids to be the best they can be.
Prior to Sunday's game, Hill has raised $45,000 for the scholarship fund.
According to his foundation’s website, Hill mentioned that impacting the community means a lot to him.
“Yes, I love playing football, but it’s what you do outside of football that makes you who you are,” Hill said via his website.
Hill was recently named to his sixth Pro Bowl. He eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the fourth time in his career as the Chiefs top receiver.
