Cumberland hires FRA cross country coach
Former Franklin Road Academy cross country coach Jim Seckel was named Cumberland's men's and women's cross country coach Thursday.
Seckel led the FRA girls team to their first-ever TSSAA Division II-A cross country state meet in 2013 and again in 2014, He also led the boys to the 2013 state meet.
As the school's distance track coach, Seckel helped lead the FRA boys to the state meet in May.
The Camarillo, Calif., native has coached runners at multiple levels since 1995, including high school and youth clubs as well as serving as a private coach.
Seckel has been a competitive runner since 1980 and completed 30 marathon, including six consecutive Boston Marathons.
He finished 27th in the 2012 Country Music Marathon and sixth in the 2012 Big Cottonwood Marathon in Salt Lake City.
Seckel graduated from the US Military Academy in 1990 and served five years as a captain in the US Army Corps of Engineering offices.
