Sporting News: ASU 30, BYU 24
Bill Bender writes: "BYU has a chance to knock off three straight Pac-12 opponents, and Jaren Hall has emerged as a playmaker at quarterback for the Cougars. Arizona State counters with a merciless rushing attack led by Jayden Daniels and Rachaad White. The Sun Devils pull out a tough victory on the road."
ESPN: BYU has a 53.3% chance to win the game
The site's Football Power Index gives ASU a 46.7% chance to pick up the victory.
Fansided: Go with BYU at home against ASU
Peter Dewey writes: "The Cougars have been impressive this season in the first year without Wilson, who was the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, and I think they take this one as a home underdog. BYU is 22-10 at home since the 2016 season, and I think that oddsmakers are giving Arizona State a little too much respect in this matchup. The Sun Devils did blow out UNLV and Southern Utah but neither of those teams is as talented as the Cougars. BYU showed it is for real with a win over Utah last week, and they might be my favorite upset pick this week. Give me the Cougars to get the win at home."
SB Nation: ASU 34, BYU 30
Nick J. Lee writes: "This game has #PAC12AfterDark written all over it. Both teams know how to score points as the Cougars ranked ninth in scoring last season and the Sun Devils checked in at 12th. The one difference is that Arizona State returns their stud quarterback in Jayden Daniels while former Cougar Zach Wilson begins his NFL career and they will start afresh with a new signal caller. The Sun Devils return the most production out of any PAC-12 team. Head coach Herm Edwards will have his team ready to play when they come to Provo. This might be as tough of a test as Utah. Buckle up."
KSL: BYU 34, ASU 30
Mitch Harper writes: "Arizona State is talented enough to be considered the best team in the Pac-12 Conference this year. But the Sun Devils are mired in controversy right now. The NCAA is looking into alleged violations that took place during the pandemic-caused recruiting dead period in 2020. As a result, three assistant coaches are on administrative leave at the moment. But it seems the Sun Devils are willing to sacrifice it all for the chance to win a Pac-12 title this year. "Everyone knows about QB Jayden Daniels. He didn’t make the big leap last year that many expected, but he only played in four games during ASU’s abbreviated season. He has a host of talented skill players led by Rachaad White at RB and Utah transfer Bryant Thompson at WR. Also, keep an eye out for linebacker Merlin Robertson. Once a BYU recruit, he’s one of the top linebackers in the Pac-12. ASU might be the best team BYU faces at the season’s end, but this being their first road test with the limited coaching staff, I’m calling for BYU to pull off the upset."
Fansided: ASU 28, BYU 21
Connor Muldowney writes: "Things won’t get much easier for BYU … as Arizona State takes the trip to Provo to get a shot at the Cougars. The Sun Devils’ defense was really bad last year but I don’t expect that trend to continue with eight starters back and Antonio Pierce leading the unit. I see them taking a big step in the right direction this season to catch up to an offense that ranked 12th in scoring and 20th in yards per game a year ago. Arizona State holds BYU in check and hangs on for a one-touchdown victory."
Sports Chat Place: Take BYU with the points against ASU
Randy Chambers writes: "The Sun Devils are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite. The Cougars are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog. The under is 6-2 in Sun Devils last 8 games overall. The under is 5-0 in Cougars last 5 games overall. The Arizona State Sun Devils haven’t beaten anybody to write home about this season and they’ve been one-dimensional on offense up to this point with a limited passing game. The BYU Cougars have been far more impressive through two games and are fresh off a comfortable win over a ranked Utah team. BYU is physical on both sides of the ball and has made opponents work for everything on defense. At home, this line is rather surprising. Give me BYU and the points in a game it could easily win outright."
Picks and Parlays: BYU will beat ASU in Provo
It writes: "BYU will pick up a victory at home on Saturday against Arizona State, but the play here is UNDER. The UNDER has cashed in six of Arizona State's last eight and in each of BYU’s last five. BYU held the Utah offense to just 340 yards and forced the Utes into committing two turnovers. The UNDER has cashed in 11 of BYU’s last 13 against an opponent from the Pac-12."
