BYU takes down Arizona State in Sun Devils' first road game of season

PROVO, Utah – After trailing by 17 points through three quarters, Arizona State rallied late but still fell short at Brigham Young on Wednesday, losing the non-conference women’s basketball game 55-44.

The Sun Devils (1-2) opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run, and at one point had the deficit down to 7 but came no closer.

No Sun Devils player managed to reach double figures in the loss. ASU was led by Mael Gilles, who had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. The Cougars held ASU to 30 percent shooting from the field and just 13 percent from the three-point line.

BYU (3-0) was paced by senior guard Paisley Harding’s 25 points. Sophomore Lauren Gustin had her third double-double in as many games 10 points, 16 rebounds).

ASU returns home to play host to Marist at 1 p.m. Sunday before heading to Mexico next week for the Cancun Challenge over a long Thanksgiving weekend. The Sun Devils will face Houston, Baylor and Fordham.
