Mark your calendars: Memphis Madness is back.

After last year’s event was pre-recorded and held virtually due to COVID-19, the school’s preseason basketball party returns Oct. 13 at FedExForum in person. Doors open at 6 p.m., while the program – featuring both the men’s and women’s teams – is scheduled to run from 7-9. Tickets for Memphis Madness will go on sale at 8 a.m. Wednesday exclusively at GoTigersGoTix.com.

There are no current capacity limitations for events at FedExForum. But the venue’s most recent attendance policy update follows the CDC’s guidance on recommending masks for everyone.

Both teams will be introduced and showcased in NBA-style skills challenges, contests (3-point shooting and dunking). The men’s team, which will also conduct an intrasquad scrimmage, is coming off an NIT championship.

Memphis Madness will serve as the first chance to see coach Penny Hardaway’s No. 1 recruiting class – headlined by Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren. It also be the first opportunity to see new women’s coach Katrina Merriweather.

As always, Memphis Madness promises to include “special guest appearances,” although specific details are being closely guarded. Two years ago, rappers Lil Baby, Future, Moneybagg Yo, Young Dolph and Key Glock all performed. Also in the building for the show were Grizzlies star Ja Morant and this year’s No. 2 overall draft pick Jalen Green, who was being recruited by the Tigers at the time.

The Blue Carpet Experience, Memphis Madness’ preshow, will begin at 5 p.m. on the FedExForum Plaza just outside the arena.
