In the thick of the crowd packed into the 18-yard box, Nashville SC's Anibal Godoy scored a goal for Panama against the U.S. Men's National Team on Sunday to give his country the lead in the 2022 World Cup Qualifier.

Cheers from Panama fans erupted inside the Estadio Rommel Fernández in the 54th minute when fullback Eric Davis' corner kick found Godoy at the near post. Running towards the lobbing ball, Godoy flicked his header back towards goal. The ball ricocheted off of U.S. forward Gyasi Zardes and went in for the 1-0 goal.

Godoy scored his third international goal on Sunday in his 111th appearance for Panama. He captained his national team Sunday before being stretchered off in the 67th minute with an apparent leg injury. Godoy was seen walking freely on the bench after being substitued.

Godoy, a starting central midfielder for Nashville in MLS, faced Nashville center back Walker Zimmerman, who captained the U.S. for the third time in his international career.
