Patrick Peterson slams Arizona Cardinals GM Steve Keim, lobbies for Chandler Jones trade
Patrick Peterson has never been afraid to speak his mind.
The former Arizona Cardinals cornerback has done a lot of that regarding his former team since landing with the Minnesota Vikings.
Peterson recently blasted his former general manager, Cardinals GM Steve Keim, on his "All Things Covered" podcast with Bryant McFadden.
While not naming Keim, the former All-Pro cornerback questioned Steve Keim's record as GM of the Cardinals and why he wasn't under more pressure.
"Tell me this, this league is always about productivity, right?" Peterson said during the podcast. "Who builds football teams? Who is in charge of building the football team?"
McFadden replied: "The GM."
Peterson then had this response: "And what did he do lately? I'm talking about the record, it's all about what you have done lately.
“How come coaches are always on the hot seat, but GMs are not?" Peterson, who signed with the Vikings as a free agent in the offseason after 10 seasons in Arizona, continued. "That's kind of a little weird to me.
"Most good GMs have a five to 10-year plan, and I don’t think they have that there."
Peterson also shared his thoughts on former teammate Chandler Jones' situation in Arizona, again questioning Keim and the organization.
After McFadden said that Jones clearly means a lot to the franchise, Peterson replied: "That don't mean nothing, that don't mean nothing."
He went on: "I don't think he gets traded, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised. If the right deal came up, I think he'd be traded but that is kind of up in the air. I really don't know. That's a tough pill to swallow because he means so much to the organization, but hell, you never know what that team is going to do."
Jones, who is reportedly seeking a new contract, reportedly recently requested a trade from the Cardinals.
Peterson requested a trade during his time with Arizona as well.
He evidently still isn't happy about the way Keim, and the organization treated him.
“I always thinks it’s so weird for them to always take care of other guys," Peterson said on the podcast, "there’s nothing wrong with taking care of other guys, but you don’t take care of the guys that have been there? C’mon man. C'mon man. Man got a sack every single game and I told Chandler this, because I've seen it time after time after time after time after time again. Chandler, if you don't get a new deal, the deal that you want going into the season, start looking for a new team, player."
When asked by McFadden if he would want Jones in Minnesota, Peterson had this to say: "No doubt about it. I hope we trade for him because I need my guy. Me and Chandler. … We the rocket power boys. He go get the quarterback and I shut down the receivers."
Peterson said he was "not surprised" by Jones' situation "because they always find a way to take care of the offensive guys. But I don't know why defensive guys always get looked upon the way that they do in that organization. It's just weird to me," he said.
