Minnesota Vikings' Patrick Peterson to face rude homecoming from Arizona Cardinals fans?

There are some very intriguing story lines surrounding the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings game in Week 2 of the NFL season on Sunday.

One of them surrounds Patrick Peterson's return to Arizona as a cornerback for the Vikings.

Peterson has been outspoken in his criticism of his former team since he signed with Minnesota in the offseason after spending the first 10 years of his career with the Cardinals.

Here's a quick roundup of some of Peterson's comments, in case you need a refresher:

In August, he curiously omitted DeAndre Hopkins and other Cardinals receivers when listing the top wide receivers he would face this season, while mentioning some receivers he wouldn't play.

“I just want to go out there and just show that I still can compete with the best,” Peterson told NFL writer Peter King. “We got a top-five toughest schedule this year. Got an opportunity to see [Green Bay’s] Davante Adams twice this year. We got Julio Jones and A.J. Brown in Tennessee. We got Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf [Seattle]. The schedule is definitely set up for me.”

NFL Week 2 picks, predictions:

In July, he slammed Cardinals general manager Steve Keim without mentioning him by name.

“How come coaches are always on the hot seat, but GMs are not?" Peterson said on his podcast. "That's kind of a little weird to me.

"Most good GMs have a five to 10-year plan, and I don’t think they have that there."

In May, Peterson said he had the Vikings' Week 2 game against Arizona "circled."

“The division games are going to be always a dogfight, you know what I mean" Peterson said on his podcast, "but the one I circled is definitely Week 2, that's not even close. That's not even close."

Former Arizona Cardinals star Patrick Peterson will play in State Farm Stadium again on Sunday, but this time he will be playing for the road team, the Minnesota Vikings.

Rude homecoming for Patrick Peterson on Sunday?

Many Cardinals fans have evidently had enough of Peterson's comments since his departure from Arizona (and his suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy and trade demand from the team also didn't help the cornerback's approval rating with fans of the team).

They have taken to social media this week in anticipation of Peterson's return to State Farm Stadium.

And judging by their comments, the former Cardinal might not receive the friendliest of welcomes in Glendale, who evidently also have Sunday's Cardinals vs. Vikings game "circled."
