Cleveland Browns CB Denzel Ward out against Chargers with neck injury

Akron Beacon Journal

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a neck injury.

Ward left the game in the first half but was ruled out in the third quarter.

The Browns are becoming thin at the cornerback position. Rookie Greg Newsome II is currently out with a calf injury. Backup A.J. Green was also briefly injured against the Chargers before returning to the game.

This comes against a Chargers team that features one of the most potent passing offenses in the NFL. That includes wide receiver Mike Williams, who beat the Browns secondary on a 72-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Justin Herbert.

Ward has had an extensive injury history in the NFL. The former first-round pick from Ohio State missed three games as a rookie in 2018. He then missed four games in 2019 and four more in 2020.

This season he's played in every game for the Browns, and had 17 tackles coming into Sunday's game against the Chargers.
