Browns place Kareem Hunt, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah on injured reserve
BEREA — Running back Kareem Hunt and rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah landed on injured reserve Tuesday, the Browns announced.
The moves were expected after coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday both players suffered significant injuries in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 37-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Stefanski said Hunt would miss more than three games with a right calf injury, adding the timetable for the standout back's return is "in that ballpark" of four to six weeks.
Owusu-Koramoah is expected to be on a return-to-play timeline of about four to six weeks, too, given he suffered a right high ankle sprain.
The Browns (3-3) will be short-handed at several positions Thursday night when they host the Denver Broncos (3-3).
For example, decisions on the statuses of quarterback Baker Mayfield (torn labrum in left, non-throwing shoulder), wide receivers Jarvis Landry (knee, on IR) and Odell Beckham Jr. (shoulder), running back Nick Chubb (calf) and starting offensive tackles Jack Conklin (knee) and Jedrick Wills Jr. (ankle) have yet to be finalized.
Mayfield reiterated Tuesday he expects to play against the Broncos. The quarterback also reflected on Hunt shedding tears as he was carted from the sideline to the locker room on Sunday.
"It’s tough to lose a guy like that," Mayfield said. "He’s high-energy guy. He hates not being out there. He’s a football guy. He wants to be out there playing, and that’s where you saw just the raw emotion after his calf got hurt. It wasn’t the pain for him. It was realizing that he’s going to be out for a little bit. So that hurts from a spark standpoint, an explosiveness on offense, but we’re coaching our next guy up to be ready to go. We’re going to have to get prepared with whoever we have out there."
In addition to putting Hunt and Owusu-Koramoah on IR, the Browns signed running back John Kelly to the active roster from the practice squad and restored receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley to the practice squad from the practice squad/injured list.
